STEP 5 of 10 - Stock
Item Coding Standard |
 |

|
Managing
stock items is a very important part of maintenance of any
facility.
Defining the stock item coding standard you are going to use is
basically establishing a structured organisation of Classes,
Families and Sub-Families for all your stock items.
InnWinWin already includes a generic material coding standard
for your guidance. You should adjust and improve this coding
system to meet your specific needs. In the <Configuration> menu,
go to <Materials>. You can also print this information.
Even though there is a specific field for the <Manufacturer
Code>, this code should also be added to the stock item’s
description.
The stock items structured code includes:
Class + Family + Sub-Family + Sequential Number
Creating the stock item coding standard |
 |
Go to Materials
module |
 |
Go to <Configuration> menu -> Materials -> Stock Item
Coding Standard |
 |
Choose the desired level (Class, Family or Sub-Family)
and select <New> to include a new lower level. Example:
to include a new sub-family, select the upper level
Family and click <New> |
 |
Specify the code and description and click OK |
Tips & best practices |
 |
It is good practice to code: Class with
one letter. Example: S – Spares |
|
Family with two letters. Example: FI –
Filters |
|
And Sub-Family with three numbers.
Example: 010 – Air Filters |
 |
When creating Sub-Families, be sure to
leave some “room” available for possible
changes. Example: 010, 020, 100, 200,
etc… |
